Tips for Multi-Pet Households

Living with multiple pets can be a joyful (and sometimes chaotic) experience! In our home, we share our lives with two dogs, Chloe and Kenzie, and two cats,Bambi and Beni. Over time, we’ve learned a few tricks to keep everyone happy, healthy, and (mostly) peaceful.

Creating Comfortable Spaces

Each of our dogs has their own kennel, complete with bowls attached, so they have a personal space to eat in peace. This works well, until Beni, our mischievous kitten, decides to paw out a piece of food for himself! The dogs share a raised water bowl, which the cats also love to use, even though they each have their own water fountains.

Managing Mealtimes

Our cats, Bambi and Beni, each have their own auto feeder on different levels of the house. The feeders are set to trigger at the same time, so everyone gets their meal without competition. Separate water fountains also help keep the peace and ensure everyone stays hydrated.

Beds, Yards, and Play

The dogs have two beds to choose from, but sometimes the cats steal them, or everyone piles in together! Luckily, the couch is always available for extra lounging. The dogs enjoy daily potty breaks and playtime in our fenced yard, which helps burn off energy and keeps them content.

For the cats, a tall cat tree and cozy beds on top of the dog kennels give them a safe retreat when they want some space from the dogs.

One-on-One Attention

Carter, my partner, and I make it a priority to give each pet individual attention. Whether it’s going for walks, playing with toys, or just cuddling on the couch, these moments help strengthen our bond with each animal and ensure no one feels left out.

Managing a multi-pet household takes a bit of planning and a lot of love, but seeing our pets happy together makes it all worthwhile!
